Masashi Kishimoto, the famous manga artist and writer, is the creator of Obito Uchiha’s character. When developing Obito, he infused the character with a complex blend of emotions, motivations, and personal struggles. Kishimoto carefully constructed Obito’s journey, from his introduction as a cheerful and ambitious young ninja to his transformation into the full-of-hatred and manipulative antagonist known as “Tobi.” By using the themes of loss, identity, and the corrupting influence of power, Kishimoto painted a tragic narrative for Obito.

We see Obito living with her grandmother. So it’s reasonable to assume Obito grew up without the love of his parents, though not mentioned in the series, anime, and databooks.

Driven by a deep sense of loneliness, Obito Uchiha aspired to become the Hokage in order to gain recognition and acknowledgment from the villagers. He began his journey by joining the Academy, where he developed a one-sided rivalry with Kakashi, who possessed the natural talent and popularity that Obito envied. During this time, he also formed a close bond with Rin Nohara, for whom he had romantic feelings. Upon their graduation, Obito, Rin, and Kakashi were assigned to the same team led by Minato Namikaze.

In the midst of the Third Shinobi War, Obito suffered a devastating injury when a heavy rock crushed the entire right side of his body. Accepting his impending fate, he made a selfless decision to offer his left Sharingan to Kakashi as a gesture of apology for not being able to get him a present earlier. As more rocks about to fall on him, Obito’s thoughts turned to his growing bond with Kakashi and the realization that he could never confess his love to Rin.

After being rescued and treated by Madara Uchiha, Obito’s path took a dark turn. Manipulated by Madara, Obito joined forces with him and played a pivotal role in forming the Akatsuki by recruiting rogue ninjas. He committed heinous acts, including attacking Konoha, participating in the Uchiha Clan massacre, and being responsible for the deaths of Naruto’s parents.

During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Obito initially confronted Naruto and his allies as their enemy. However, a moment of reflection triggered by Naruto’s unwavering determination reminded Obito of his past aspirations as a young boy who dreamed of becoming Hokage. This realization led to a change of heart, and Obito joined forces with the Shinobi Alliance to battle Madara and Kaguya.

Initially, Obito refused to ally with Madara and wanted to return to his village. However, his resolve shattered when he stumbled upon the devastating scene of Kakashi inadvertently killing Rin with his Chidori. This tragic event struck Obito to the core, leaving him in disbelief and despair. Overwhelmed by grief and a sense of betrayal, Obito abandoned his former ideals and readily joined forces with Madara, accepting his twisted vision without hesitation.

Despite being deeply traumatized by Rin’s death, Obito’s primary objective was not to seek revenge for her. Instead, he directed his blame toward the pervasive corruption and suffering within the Shinobi world. In pursuit of his newfound belief, Obito aligned himself with Madara and wholeheartedly embraced Madara’s grand scheme to cast the Infinite Tsukuyomi, a potent genjutsu that would subjugate all nations. To achieve this, Obito embarked on the arduous task of capturing the tailed beasts one by one. While he eventually succeeded in his mission, the path he walked was riddled with challenges. To further his cause, Obito assumed the identity of Madara Uchiha, concealing his true self from others.

In order to accomplish his goals, Obito approached Akatsuki. At the time, Akatsuki was being led by Yahiko, who had a different vision and motive for the group. Obito cunningly manipulated Yahiko and his team, ultimately leading to Yahiko’s tragic demise. With Yahiko out of the picture, Obito found it easier to exert his influence over Akatsuki. After the death of Sasori, Obito officially joined Akatsuki under the alias “Tobi,” concealing his true identity and motives.

One of the first crimes Obito committed was attacking Konoha by releasing Kyubii, which became the reason for the fourth Hokage and his wife’s death. At that time, Obito’s motive was not to capture Nine-Tails but to start a conflict between the Uchiha Clan and Konohagakure which he accomplished.

Following the escalating tension between the Uchiha Clan and Konohagakure, the higher-ups in Konoha decided to exterminate the entire Uchiha Clan before they could carry out a coup d’état. Itachi Uchiha, an Uchiha himself, was assigned this task. Obito, upon Itachi’s request, unofficially participated in the massacre.

When most of the Akatsuki members were eliminated, Obito turned his attention to Sasuke Uchiha. Together, they formed a new team known as Taka. Each member of Taka had their own unique reasons for joining the group. Sasuke’s primary goal was to avenge the suffering and sacrifices of his beloved brother, Itachi. Obito assisted Sasuke and Taka in their quest, aiding them in their mission to capture the Eight-Tails.

Obito announced the Fourth Great Ninja War during the five Kage’s summit. Obito introducing himself as Madara declared this war to force Hidden Leaf Village to hand over Nine-Tails jinchuriki, but the five Kages accepted his challenge and decided not to bend their knees. Obito succeeded in capturing all Tailed Beasts including Kurama, and also he managed to revive the Ten-Tails. Together with Madara, Obito activated Infinite Tsukuyami but this success lasted for a temporary period because Naruto and other shinobis defeated them, putting an end to their grand plan.

Obito had to engage in fights several times to accomplish his goals. With the power of the Hashirama cells and Mangekyo Sharingan, Obito gave a tough time to his opponents. Take a look at some of the most interesting battles of the Naruto series, featuring Obito Uchiha.

Obito Vs Minato

Obito wanted to start a war between the Uchiha Clan and the village. At that time, Nine-Tails jinchuriki was Kushina who was pregnant. Kushina’s seal was weakened after giving birth to her baby, and Obito was waiting for this opportunity. He, with a mask on his face, kidnapped Kushina and released the Nine-Tailed Beast from her to attack Konoha. Unaware that the masked man was his own former student, Minato, the Fourth Hokage, confronted Obito in a fierce battle. Obito employed his cunning and skill to challenge Minato, but ultimately, Minato’s strategic brilliance and expertise in space-time ninjutsu prevailed, thwarting Obito’s plans and protecting the village.

Obito Vs Konan

After Nagato’s death, Obito faced off against Konan to obtain Nagato’s Rinnegan. As a former member of Akatsuki, Konan had a deep knowledge of Obito’s abilities and sought to confront him, determined to avenge the loss of their friend, Yahiko. The clash between Obito’s Sharingan and Konan’s paper-based techniques created a visually stunning spectacle. The battle reached its climax as Konan devised a secret plan to trap Obito. Yet, Obito’s cunning and resourcefulness allowed him to outmaneuver Konan. In the end, Obito killed Konan and was successful in getting his hands on the Rinnegan.

Obito Vs Kakashi

Obito got a chance to fight his comrade, Kakashi Hatake, in the midst of the war. Interestingly, their fight unfolded in the enigmatic realm of the Kamui dimension, away from the chaos of the battlefield. Each strike exchanged between them seemed to carry a profound emotional weight, as Kakashi attempted to resolve their conflict through dialogue while striving to avoid delivering a fatal blow to Obito. Despite the apparent equality displayed during their clash, keen observers could discern Kakashi’s superior skill and prowess, a characteristic that has consistently set him apart from Obito throughout their history.

Obito Vs Naruto

Obito engaged in battle with Naruto on the battlefield of the Fourth Great Ninja War. In this fight, Obito gains divine powers equivalent to that of the Sage Of Six Paths. Being in this God-like transformation, Obito was almost undefeatable. However, Obito driven by his dark emotions couldn’t withstand Naruto’s unwavering determination. After finding hope in Naruto, Obito joined forces with Shinobi Alliance and fought against Madara and Kaguya.

Obito and Madara

Obito’s childhood was overshadowed by the absence of his parents, leaving him with a deep longing for acknowledgment and acceptance. Determined to prove his worth, he set his sights on becoming a ninja, hoping that by mastering his skills, he would gain the recognition he desired. His ultimate dream was to rise to the position of Hokage, the leader of the village, as it symbolized the pinnacle of acknowledgment and respect. His MBTI personality type is ENFP.

While Obito was known for his kind-hearted nature and unwavering loyalty to his friends and allies, there existed a peculiar one-sided rivalry between him and Kakashi. However, beyond their friendly competition, Obito had a reputation for performing random acts of kindness throughout Konoha, particularly for the elderly. This compassionate behavior, though commendable, often led to Obito being notoriously tardy as he would prioritize helping others over being punctual.

Following the tragic loss of Rin, Obito experienced a profound transformation that shattered his once unwavering determination and idealism. His perspective shifted drastically, leading him to adopt a calm and focused demeanor, devoid of any attachment to his village, friends, or even his own identity. Obito’s sole dedication became the realization of Madara’s Eye of the Moon Plan, with its promise of a new and peaceful world. In pursuit of this vision, Obito displayed a willingness to make sacrifices, including his own life and the lives of his allies, swiftly turning against them the moment they ceased to serve a purpose in his grand scheme.

Obito’s attire consisted of a distinctive long-sleeved blue uniform adorned with an orange-trimmed collar and cuffs. He complemented this with a blue jacket, secured to the rest of his outfit by two buttons on the collar, which prominently displayed the Uchiha clan crest on its back. Additionally, Obito sported a white belt, traditional shinobi sandals, and the standard dark blue forehead protector of Konoha. Completing his ensemble was a pair of goggles featuring orange lenses, which were attached to ear protectors for added functionality and style.

While posing as the Fourth Mizukage, he donned a purple-lined kimono, covered his body in bandages, and wore simple sandals. During the attack on Konoha alongside Kurama, he sported a purple-lined black cloak. During the Uchiha Massacre, he grew out his hair resembling Madara’s and adopted traditional blue Uchiha robes. When first appearing as Tobi, Obito wore a black long-sleeve top that concealed his neck and chin, along with black gloves, dark-colored pants, a long green scarf, standard sandals, and white stirrups. He adorned his waist with a thick black belt featuring armor-like metal plates, and he had blue (black in the manga) nail polish on his fingers and toes. This outfit remained consistent beneath his Akatsuki cloak, and he wore a purple ring on his left thumb. Throughout the Fourth Shinobi World War, Obito adopted an attire reminiscent of the Warring States Period Uchiha attire. This consisted of black pants and gloves, a white form-fitting shirt, and a purple high-collared mantle with the Uchiha crest on the back. He wore a simple light-purple obi and belt around his waist, and carried Madara’s gunbai on his back, connected by a black chain running up his right sleeve.

Throughout his appearances, Obito utilized various masks as a means to conceal his true identity. In the aftermath of the Nine-Tailed Demon Fox’s Attack on Konoha, he wore a mask adorned with a black flame design, which exhibited shades of orange, yellow, or grey depending on the medium. As Part II began, he switched to an orange mask featuring a spiral pattern centered around his right eye, resembling Tobi’s visage. Following its destruction by Konan, Obito adopted a white mask with a purple hue that covered the upper half of his head entirely. This mask had a unique design, incorporating elements of both the Sharingan and Rinnegan. It displayed a ripple pattern with three tomoe, two of which functioned as eye holes, further obscuring his true face.

Upon becoming the jinchūriki of the Ten-Tails, Obito undergoes significant physical transformations. His hair turns completely white, and his skin becomes pale. Ten protrusions emerge from his back, with five near his shoulders and five near his hips. Additionally, a distinctive black assortment of ten magatama markings appears on his back. One large magatama contains a black Rinnegan-like pattern, while the remaining nine are smaller and arranged in rows below it. The right half of his body takes on a scale-like pattern, replacing the scars. When Obito gains control of the Ten-Tails, he undergoes another transformation. The scale-like pattern on his body becomes less prominent, and the ten protrusions on his back expand to form the collar and coattails of a haori. Two horns sprout from his forehead, with the right horn larger than the left, and six magatama markings appear across his chest. After the Ten-Tails are extracted from his body, Obito reverts to his previous appearance, although his hair remains white.

Obito awakened his Sharingan, the Uchiha clan’s distinctive eye technique, during his first mission with Kakashi and Rin. Obito’s intense dedication and hard work led him to develop his Sharingan abilities, which allowed him to engage in fierce battles with his rival, Kakashi, and leave a lasting impression on Rin. However, Obito obtained his Mangekyou Sharingan without having to take such a life. Instead, he witnessed the tragic accidental death of Rin at the hands of Kakashi’s Chidori. As Kakashi possessed one of Obito’s Sharingan eyes due to a transplant, both of them underwent the transformation at the same time. Obito’s Mangekyou Sharingan abilities included Kamui, a space-time ninjutsu that allowed him to warp himself or objects to another dimension.

As a genin, Obito’s skills were average, but he dedicated himself to intense training and eventually became a chūnin. Recognizing his potential, Madara became his mentor, leading to a significant improvement in his abilities. Obito’s rapid growth sparked rumors of him being Madara himself, as he evolved from an average shinobi to a formidable force, surpassing expectations. The list of Jutsu performed by Obito Uchiha is given below sorted by power levels.

Fire Ball Jutsu

In the Naruto series, all Uchihas can perform Fire Style: Fire Ball Jutsu, irrespective of their affinity to particular Chakra nature. Obito struggled for a long time to master this Jutsu. As a matter of fact, Fire Ball Jutsu was the technique that Obito had to perform to become a Genin. After a couple of failures and intense hard work, he excelled in this Jutsu and rose up to the rank of Genin. Another motivation for him to learn this technique was to catch up to his rival, Kakashi, and impress her crush, Rin.

Obito, being an Uchiha and inheriting the Sharingan, showcased great proficiency in Sharingan Genjutsu. His mastery of this legendary dojutsu allowed him to utilize powerful and highly resistant genjutsu techniques. Obito’s skill in Sharingan-based genjutsu surpassed that of many others, making his illusions incredibly potent and difficult to dispel.

Izanagi is an illicit Uchiha jutsu that can only be wielded by those who possess the Sharingan. This forbidden technique allows the user to manipulate reality itself but at the expense of their Sharingan’s light. In a pivotal confrontation with Konan, Obito employed Izanagi, reshaping his fate and returning from the brink of death. This unexpected twist altered the course of the battle and ultimately secured Obito’s triumph.

Obito possessed the Mangekyo Sharingan ability known as Kamui, a distinctive space-time ninjutsu. This technique granted him the power to transport himself and objects to an alternate dimension. Recognizable by its swirling pattern, Kamui created distortions in space-time. Obito utilized this ability offensively by launching attacks with weapons stored in the Kamui dimension. He also employed it defensively, effortlessly evading enemy strikes by shifting his body into the Kamui dimension, appearing as though the attacks passed through him.

Regeneration Ability

Utilizing the power of Hashirama Senju’s cells, which were implanted in his body, Obito gained a remarkable regenerative ability that allowed him to swiftly heal his injuries in a matter of moments. Fire Release: Blast Wave Wild Dance

During the Fourth Great Ninja War, Obito showcased the Fire Release: Blast Wave technique, which was a fusion of his Sharingan and Fire Release. By combining Kamui with this technique, Obito created a swirling pattern within the powerful flames, forming a vortex of fire that ensnared his targets. The victims caught in this fiery whirlwind found themselves trapped and overwhelmed by the intense blaze, unable to escape its grasp.

Obito’s strength was his Sharingan, a type of Kekkei Genkai possessed by Uchiha Clan members. Apart from physical strength, her emotional strength was her love interest, Rin Nohara. He always trained himself hard and pushed his limits to stand out in front of her.

  • Obito’s utilization of the Kamui Dimension to allow objects to pass through his body created a vulnerability. Kakashi and Naruto recognized this weakness and perceived it as a prime opening to launch a surprise attack. They understood that when a body part of Obito was transferred to the Kamui Dimension, that specific area becomes defenseless.
  • Obito’s Kamui technique can be countered by individuals who possess enough speed to strike him before he can utilize it, as demonstrated by Minato Namikaze. Additionally, another user of Kamui, such as Kakashi Hatake, can also nullify Obito’s technique since both techniques access the same dimension.
  • Furthermore, as the Ten-Tails jinchuuriki, Obito’s vulnerability lies in the natural chakra possessed by Senjutsu users such as Naruto, Hashirama, and Hogoromo.

Obito wielded a formidable arsenal of weapons, showcasing his versatility in combat. His signature weapon was the iconic Gunbai, a large war fan that doubled as a shield. The Gunbai allowed him to deflect attacks and unleash devastating wind-based techniques. Additionally, Obito utilized kunai, shuriken, explosive tags, and a variety of ninja tools with precision and deadly accuracy.

Signature Moves

Obito’s signature move was the Kamui, a powerful space-time ninjutsu derived from his Mangekyou Sharingan. Kamui allowed Obito to manipulate and warp reality by creating and entering his own dimension. With this ability, he could phase through objects, evade attacks, and even teleport himself or others to a different location.

However, it is apparent that Obito had a caring and loving grandmother who played a significant role in his life. Unfortunately, just like Obito’s parents, the exact fate of his grandmother is uncertain. It is plausible that she may have passed away due to old age, considering the passage of time and Obito’s presumed demise.

  • To unlock the Mangekyou Sharingan, an Uchiha typically needs to sacrifice someone dear to them. However, Obito’s path was different. He gained his Mangekyou Sharingan by witnessing the tragic death of Rin, caused accidentally by Kakashi’s Chidori. As fate would have it, Kakashi had one of Obito’s Sharingan eyes due to a transplant, resulting in both of them undergoing the transformative awakening simultaneously.
  • Obito was deeply in love with Rin, but he never had the opportunity to confess his feelings to her. This unfulfilled longing became a regret that weighed heavily on him. Tragically, when Obito was seemingly crushed under a large rock and faced the brink of death, he did not pass away. Instead, he was given a second chance at life, but fate dealt him a cruel hand. This time, Rin met her untimely demise, shattering Obito’s hopes of ever confessing his love to her. The twist of fate intensified Obito’s pain, leaving him with the burden of carrying his unrequited love and the loss of Rin.

  • Obito Uchiha appears in several instances prior to his actual introduction in the series. His face is seen in a picture of Team Minato on the cover of chapter 16, as well as being thought of by the Third Hokage in chapter 122 and Naruto episode 72.
  • The name “Tobi” can be translated in two ways. It can be interpreted as the “i form” of the verb “to fly” (飛ぶ, tobu), or it can be associated with the word “kite” (鳶, tobi). The latter translation draws a connection between Tobi and Taka through the Japanese proverb “a hawk born from a kite” (鳶が鷹を生む, tobi ga taka o umu), which conveys the idea that an exceptionally talented child can emerge from humble origins or ordinary parents.
  • Prior to the final battle in Naruto Shippuden, Obito did indeed utilize the Infinite Tsukuyomi. In the Naruto movie Road To Ninja, Obito used the same technique to confront Naruto and Sakura, trapping them within an alternate reality of his creation. This alternate world served as a battleground where Obito manipulated Naruto’s counterpart, Menma, in an attempt to achieve his goals.

  • In the ending omake of Naruto: Shippūden episode 129, Obito’s orange mask is featured, along with the appearance of Baki’s face and Haku’s mask.
  • Interestingly, despite Obito being a practitioner of the Six Paths Senjutsu, he is not listed as a senjutsu user or a user of Yang Release in the fourth databook.
  • Obito experienced two instances where his life seemed to come to an end. The first occurred when he made a selfless sacrifice to protect Kakashi during their mission, but he did not actually perish. The second instance happened when he bravely gave his life to shield Naruto, Sasuke, and Kakashi from Kaguya’s devastating attack. This time, Obito met his ultimate fate and passed away.

  • According to the information provided in the third databook, Obito’s height is stated as 175 cm when he goes by the alias “Tobi.” However, in the fourth databook, it is revealed that his height is actually 182 cm when his true identity as Obito is unveiled. It is worth noting that Studio Pierrot, the animation studio behind Naruto, states Obito’s adult height as 180 cm. These discrepancies in reported heights may arise from various interpretations or adjustments made by different sources involved in the Naruto franchise.
