Tony Tony Chopper (トニートニー・チョッパー) is a Canadian fictional character, Straw Hat Pirate, and a doctor in the famous series One Piece created by the editor and author/mangaka Eiichiro Oda and Toei Animation adapted the anime.
Tony Tony Chopper, also known as Chopper was born on 24 December (age 15 years pre-time skip; 17 years post-time skip) on Drum Island, Sakura Kingdom. His Zodiac sign is Capricorn and his blood type is X. Chopper was an abandoned reindeer who learned medicine from the doctors of Drum Island in order to cure any disease and bring happiness to people while traveling the World as a Pirate.

Chopper is a reindeer from the forests of Drum Island with a special feature of a blue nose.
Parents & Siblings
Chopper’s parents died when he was a young calf and he was mistreated and abandoned by his kind. He was adopted by a mad doctor Dr. Hiluluk who taught him medicine and formed a special bond with him. Chopper by mistake brought him a poisonous mushroom to help him heal which led to his death.
After the death of Dr. Hiluluk, Chopper was taken by Dr. Kureha who taught him everything she knew, and irrespective of how she treated him, she loved him and considered him as his son. She feels proud of him and lets him go with the Straw Hat crew to help him fulfill his dream.
Love Intrest- Girlfriend
Chopper developed a strong romantic interest in Milky, a female reindeer mink. Usopp wondered what had happened to the typically platonic Chopper as she touched his face and addressed him as “Doctor Chopper”; he collapsed disoriented and with love hearts in his eyes.
Chopper was born with a blue nose, which made him an outcast among the reindeer herd on Drum Island. He was mistreated and often ostracized by the other reindeer, leading to loneliness and sadness in his early life. One day, Chopper consumed the Human-Human Fruit, a Devil Fruit that granted him the ability to transform into a human-reindeer hybrid. This transformation allowed Chopper to speak and possess human-like intelligence, but it also caused further isolation as the other reindeer feared and rejected him even more. After the death of his parents, Chopper was taken in by Dr. Hiluluk who taught him about medicine. After Dr. Hiluluk’s death, Chopper dedicated himself to becoming a skilled doctor, hoping to honor his adoptive father’s legacy.
Chopper’s character in One Piece is inspired by the concept of misfits and the idea that appearances can be deceiving. Eiichiro Oda, the creator of One Piece, drew inspiration from Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and other stories that feature characters who are initially misunderstood or rejected because of their differences. His design and transformation into a human-reindeer hybrid reflect Oda’s creativity and imagination.
Chopper was designed to be different at the beginning of the series but was changed later to a cute character who has been loved by various fans and he is the most adorable character in the One Piece series. His behavior and innocence made him a love of the audience.
Initially introduced as a timid and naive reindeer, Chopper’s experiences with rejection and loneliness shape his character arc. Through his encounters with the Straw Hat Pirates, Chopper learns the value of friendship, trust, and self-belief. He gradually gains confidence, becoming more assertive and courageous as he faces various challenges alongside his newfound crewmates.
Chopper’s role as the Straw Hat Pirates’ doctor also plays a crucial part in his growth. His medical skills improve throughout the series, and he constantly strives to expand his knowledge and help others. Chopper’s dedication to medicine and his compassionate nature make him an invaluable asset to the crew, and he becomes increasingly adept at utilizing his abilities to heal and protect his friends even if it costs him his life.
After learning about medicine and doctoral practices from Dr. Kureha, Chopper wanted to go out and explore the sea to become a pirate and be able to heal any illness. He joined the crew and started to work as a doctor of the crew. He used the power of his devil fruit to help the crew in battles and aid them as an ally. Due to the need for his strength, he started using a drug called “Rumble Ball” which allowed him to transform into stronger forms but with side effects. During the Davy Back Fight with the Foxy Pirates, Chopper had been taken away from the crew for which the Straw Hat Crew had to rescue and get him back.
Chopper spent the two-year time skip in the Torino Kingdom, where he learned a great deal about medicine and how to use his devil fruit more effectively. He could now employ all of his many transformations (points) without consuming Rumble Ball, and he would only use it to morph into Monster Point, which he could now manage while remaining conscious. His biggest goal now is to fix the people who have been affected by the artificial devil called “Smile”.
Chopper has been more of a supporting character when coming to battles who used to support the team by providing first aid, but when it comes to direct action, he uses his transformations and devil fruit powers to the full extent.
Some of the most well-known and popular fights of Chopper are:
- Chopper vs. Chessmarimo

Chopper has always given his 100% in order to be able to protect his friends and crew. He has been able to achieve victory in some of the fights such as:
- Chopper faced off against the tyrannical King Wapol and his henchmen to protect the kingdom and the people he cared about. Chopper’s determination and his transformation into his monstrous “Monster Point” form allowed him to defeat Wapol and drive him out of Drum Island.
- He played a crucial role in the Straw Hat Pirates’ battle against the Baroque Works organization. He fought against Mr. 4 and his partner Miss Merry Christmas. With the help of his Rumble Ball, Chopper’s increased strength and agility allowed him to defeat his opponents.
- Along with the other Straw Hat Pirates, Chopper fought against the powerful CP9 agents in Enies Lobby. He faced off against Kumadori, one of the CP9 members, and despite initial difficulties, Chopper tapped into his abilities and managed to defeat Kumadori, displaying his growth and determination.
- Chopper played a crucial role in the battle against Caesar Clown and his subordinates on Punk Hazard. He once again showcased his Monster Point form and fought against various opponents, including the Yeti Cool Brothers.
Though Chopper has been fighting as a supporting character mostly, sometimes he also faced defeat. Some of such scenarios are:
- Kuma defeated the whole crew of Straw Hat Pirates at Sabaody Island where all the crew members including Chopper were one-shot to various different parts of the globe.
- In the Thriller Bark Arc, Chopper confronted the powerful zombie general, Doctor Hogback, and fought bravely, but he was overmatched by Hogback’s size and strength.
- On Onigashima, Chopper did his best to fight Queen using his new Rumble Ball which allowed him to stay in monster point for longer, but he still could not match the power level of Queen and was defeated after a long fight of will.
With the help of the Straw Hat Crew, Chopper was able to defeat most of his enemies, but a threat still remains from the World Government which wants to capture Chopper as a member of the famous pirate crew. He is in danger from World Government along with his enemy from the past Wapol being allied with the Navy.
Kureha, also known as the “Witch of the Snow,” is a doctor and a mentor figure to Chopper. Their bond is rooted in their shared love and passion for medicine. She took Chopper under her wing and became his mentor, teaching him the art of medicine and nurturing his potential as a doctor where Chopper learned various medical skills. Kureha sees Chopper as a cherished student and often refers to him as her “son.” Chopper, in turn, looks up to Kureha as a motherly figure and values her guidance and love.
After visiting the Zou island and meeting the Mink Tribe, Chopper was able to connect with them and helped them after the attack of Jack The Drought. He helped them as a doctor and provided first aid and support to everyone and also met Milky whom he fell in love
Chopper met Dr. Miyagi and Tristan while attending to the problems of the Mink Tribe where they introduced themselves as fellow doctors. They all work together in order to make medicines and antidotes in order to heal people. During the Wano Arc, Chopper was greatly helped by both of them and they carried him during his “Old Baby” form.
As a fellow Mink and temporary crewmate, Chopper became close friends with Carrot (Rabbit Mink). She calls him “Cho-niki”(Big Bro) and they both like to spend time together exploring and having fun. They both possess childlike qualities and a sense of wonder, which allows them to bond and relate to each other. They frequently engage in cheerful and silly interactions, bringing a sense of joy and laughter to their interactions.
Monkey D Luffy was the first pirate Chopper met in his life and wanted to go travel the seas with him. Initially, Chopper was not considered as the doctor, but considered as an emergency food supply by Luffy. He thought of Chopper being a conscious and scared animal who would not take any steps for himself but after rescuing his village, Luffy asked Chopper to join the crew to which he agreed gladly. They both enjoy the first laugh at silly things and are always goofing around and getting amazed by everything. Chopper has been a loyal crewmate and doctor to Luffy and has been helping him fight all sorts of injuries.
Roronoa Zoro is like a big brother to Chopper who protects and cares for him. He has been indebted to Chopper for saving his life many times and also has been saving Chopper from doing silly stuff. Both of them share a bond of siblings and also argue at moments. Chopper loves to travel while sitting on Zoro’s shoulder and gets angry at him for being mean to anyone.
The first member of the crew to identify Chopper as a doctor is Nami, who has a special affection for him and values his medical expertise. While Chopper admires her navigational skills, he is often so terrified by her obsessive love of money and aggressive behavior towards the crew’s “idiots” that he flees or sets up his Guard Point when these mood swings occur. In cold weather or when she is terrified, Nami will hug Chopper’s fur for comfort. Chopper and Nami have a deep commitment to one another as the two have a bond similar to that of an elder sister and younger brother.
Usopp tells a lot of lies, and most of the time, Chopper falls for them first, at least for a little while. One of the most severely hurt crew members was Chopper, and when Luffy defeated Usopp in the duel for the Going Merry and Chopper desperately wanted to go attend to his wounds but had to be restrained by Sanji. He even asked Usopp for an autograph after falling for his “Sogeking” act. They both form a strong team and have fought many battles together despite being the most cowardly members of the crew. At Zou Arc, Chopper hugs Usopp to show his happiness after a reunion from Whole Cake Island.
Sanji jokes that he should join the team as an “emergency food supply” because he originally wanted to be the cook for Chopper, but Chopper is the one man Sanji cares for the most out of all the men in the group. Chopper looks up to the cook for his natural ability to fight and is terrified of Sanji’s raging wrath. When Nami gets upset or there is an opponent nearby, Chopper frequently hides behind Sanji’s knee, which causes Sanji to pat Chopper’s head in a consoling manner. One of the first to recognize how dangerous Sanji’s nosebleeds were, Chopper even begged the fishmen for blood. Sanji has frequently saved Chopper, and in return, Chopper has always given him medical assistance.
Nico Robin is utterly fond of Chopper and cares for him like a motherly figure. Among all the crewmates, she is the most caring and loving towards Chopper and makes sure to take care of his health and hygiene. Initially, Chopper was afraid of Robin because of her mysterious nature and knowing about her specialization in assassinations. Chopper is always playful with Robin and she uses her devil fruit ability to make him laugh and have a good time.
As a shipwright and skilled craftsman, Franky often assists Chopper with repairs and upgrades for his medical equipment. He appreciates Chopper’s unique abilities as a doctor and recognizes his importance to the crew. Chopper, on the other hand, has the utmost respect for Franky’s artistic talent and his capacity to construct and alter objects. He frequently asks Franky’s advice or help when it comes to enhancing his inventions or developing new tools because he views Franky as a technical mentor. During battles and adventures, Chopper and Franky work together as a team. They support each other and contribute their individual skills and strengths to overcome challenges.
Despite Brook (Soul King) being the eldest Straw Hat and Chopper being the youngest, they get along very well. Chopper is seen to adore the music of the undead skeleton and frequently dances to it. The constant special attention Chopper receives from Nami and Robin makes Brook envious and he hates the way Chopper reacts so casually to it. They both form a strong tag team and have defeated many powerful enemies together.
Chopper has the MBTI personality of an INPF person. He demonstrates introverted traits as he often retreats into his own thoughts and is initially shy and socially awkward. He is introspective and in touch with his own emotions, which aligns with the INFP preference for internal reflection. Chopper is imaginative, curious, and has a strong sense of intuition. He often relies on his gut feelings and instincts, particularly when it comes to diagnosing and treating patients. Chopper’s ability to transform into various forms also reflects his imaginative and creative nature.
Fighting Skills: 8/10
Leadership Quality: 3/10
Bounty: 1000 berries (Post Wano Arc)
Before the time skips, Chopper used to wear a signature pink hat that was given to him by Dr. Hiluluk and a pair of shorts. Apart from this, he would often wear add-on clothes depending upon the place or the environment of the region. He would often change his outfit in order to blend in with the crowd while hiding or infiltration.
After the time skips, Chopper changed his outfit significantly to a blue fluffy hat with a striped tee shirt and shorts. He still wears the same hat with respect to the memory of his former owner but has made a few changes to the same. He loves to change his outfit regularly and wear different kinds of fighting gear and classic designs based on the culture of the place.
The hybrid form of Chopper is only useful for normal day-to-day activities, but he mostly relies only on his transformations in order to work and fight. Before the time skip, Chopper required Rumble Ball, which was a drug to boost his performance, for almost every transformation but after the time skip, he was able to transform as per his will and only used Rumble Ball for transforming into Monster Point at the cost of losing his consciousness.
Chopper uses this form in order to turn into a normal reindeer and walk on four legs. This allows him to run faster and also carry his allies on his back.
This allows him to transform into a super muscular human-like format and gives him inhuman strength. He uses this form in order to fight and overpower his enemies.
Chopper uses this point to make his legs stronger and bouncy, allowing him to jump long heights and evade attacks. This point was only used before the time skip and gave him give level of speed and agility.
The best form of defense Chopper uses is the Guard Point which allows him to cover himself in a big ball of fur to take no damage from the upcoming attacks. He can also use this form to shield his allies and hide stuff inside them.
Chopper uses his maximum strength to transfer it to his arms and make them muscular. He uses this form mostly for one on one combat and to deal maximum damage with his fist strikes.
Chopper uses this form in order to grow his horns extremely large in order to attack and dig underground. This gives him both an attack and speed boost with quick sneaky tactics.
Kung Fu Point
After training for 2 years, Chopper unlocked a new form, Kung Fu Point which allows him to transform into a human-like figure and use his fighting skills as a martial artist. This form is a mix of his previous jumping and arms point combined.
Chopper is not allowed to consume more than one Rumble Ball every six hours because of the possibility of this modification, which necessitates careful monitoring of consumption. He would get further transformations if he took a second one, but he would lose control over which of his seven forms he assumed as he changed. And if a third one is taken, Chopper turns into Monster Point, a huge, incredibly powerful monster that sends him insane and wild.
Chopper gained the ability to access the extra forms after the two-year gap without restriction and at any moment, all without having to actually take the Rumble Ball. He also improved his Monster Point; he can now enter this form with just one Rumble Ball and maintain control of himself for three minutes, fighting at his peak strength.
During the Wano Arc Chopper revealed that with Caesar Clown’s assistance, he was able to extend the use of Monster Point by increasing the Rumble Ball’s duration period to thirty minutes. However, it had some side effects as soon as the effects of the Rumble Ball wear off, Chopper reverted to an old infant-like state.
Chopper has a strong capacity for research and interpretation and is capable of innovative ways to handle difficulties. He is naturally an animal, which enables him to comprehend animal language and engage in animal communication, enabling him to act as a link between animals and people. Chopper is a remarkable medical professional that possesses exceptional knowledge in both medicine and pharmaceuticals as well as how to prepare the majority of treatments and ointments using common fruits, herbs, roots, and vegetables that can be discovered and utilized on most islands. He is also competent in performing surgeries.
In his hybrid form, Chopper is able to access his Brain Point which allows him to use his brain powers to the maximum level and also scan for weakness in enemies. In this form, he can combine the thinking of the human brain and the senses of a reindeer.
Chopper is able to use various moves combined with his transformations to attack enemies and protect his comrades. He can use his skills to maximize attack, defense, speed, and agility. He can gain the upper hand easily during any fight through rapid transformations. He uses various attacks such as Chopaphage Nebulizer, Heavy Gong, Kaku Hou Elf, Koku tei Cross, Koku tei Diamond, Koku tei Palm, and Koku tei Roseo to land heavy hits on his enemies during combat.
- Medical Expertise: Chopper’s primary strength lies in his extensive medical knowledge and skills. He is a highly skilled doctor who can diagnose and treat various illnesses and injuries. His knowledge of medicine makes him a valuable asset to the Straw Hat Pirates.
- Rumble Ball Transformations: Chopper’s consumption of the Rumble Ball grants him the ability to transform into several different forms, each with unique strengths and abilities. These transformations significantly enhance his combat capabilities and make him a formidable opponent in battle.
- Emotional Intelligence: Chopper possesses deep empathy and emotional intelligence. He has a natural ability to understand and connect with others including beasts and animals, which allows him to provide emotional support and comfort to others. This emotional intelligence also aids him in reading situations and understanding the needs of those around him.
- Physical Strength: While Chopper’s Monster Point transformation grants him immense physical power just for 3 minutes, his base form is relatively weaker compared to other members of the crew. This usually puts him at a disadvantage in direct confrontations with physically stronger opponents.
- Lack of Confidence: Chopper has struggled with self-confidence throughout the series, often doubting his own abilities and feeling inferior. This self-doubt can sometimes hinder his performance or decision-making, especially in high-pressure situations.
- Disturbed Psychology: Chopper has always been loved by the ladies of the crew but he is always shy and struggles with hiding himself properly. Also, he has always been on the radar of Luffy who considers him his food. This usually makes him scared and it feels like his psychology might get disturbed.
Chopper usually carries a bag full of health equipment and Rumble Balls which allows him to engage in combat as well as provide support for his injured friends. He is able to use his medical equipment to create antidotes or medicine for any injuries. He often uses the Rumble Balls to make the best out of his devil fruit powers in physical fights.
Chopper uses his Monster Point transformation in order to hit his enemy with his strongest move, Koku tei Palm which is a strong palm strike with his extended arm to damage his enemy.
